Parque Juan Carlos I

The Juan Carlos Park is nice. A bit too nice. Located in Bajaras (which as far as I’m aware is just the airport wasteland) and just a short walk from Campo de las Naciones metro station, even on a Saturday afternoon there was an eerie silence in the air. It’s dotted with huge sculptures and information centres (the most I’ve seen in any one space so far in Madrid…but for what?!) with vast expanses of grass, which nobody sits on because there is no shade…

My favourite thing about it was this huge, strange solar pyramid, in which the electric cars belonging to the park recharge at night.

I prefer parks a bit wilder. But if you’re in the area it’s worth a visit for a quiet kip/read/picnic under a tree.
